A Brief History of AAM How it All Began Ann Arbor Machine Company was founded on July 1, 1985 by Robert Betzig, a veteran of the machine tool industry. Mr. Betzig envisioned a company which could develop innovative solutions to its customers’ most challenging manufacturing problems. The newly-formed Ann Arbor Machine Company purchased the assets and assumed the operations of a machine shop located just west of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Most of the company’s revenues during the first year came from producing small parts and sub-assemblies. Sales for the company’s first full year were slightly over $6 million.
